What we’re looking for
The Calcagno Scholarship awards Midshipmen funding to pursue immediate graduate education, fostering academic and diplomatic excellence at the onset of the scholars’ careers, with inclusive perspectives at its core.
In their pursuit to further thought leadership in our Armed Services, government, and society, Calcagno Scholars will draw from a broad coalition of identities and across intellectual perspective, class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, & allyship, among other factors.
Eligibility
In addition to demonstrating extraordinary present social and diplomatic leadership, and propensity for it in the future, the ability to anticipate and act on trends and changes in their context, strong intellectual capacity, and exemplary character, candidates from the US Naval Academy must complete the online application.
Our Selection Process
Interested candidates participate in a rigorous and thorough selection process, designed to identify the most promising young leaders in our Armed Services, government, and society who are focused on challenging the status quo and calling in diverse perspectives. The scholar selected will have demonstrated an ability to effectively understand and contribute to the program so it may evolve to suit the needs of a rapidly changing world.
The Calcagno Scholarship has a five person selection board, including the Executive Director, Mr. Drew Calcagno, a Chair, and three Board Reviewers. This board is comprised entirely of alums, who identify as people of different genders, orientations, ethnicities, and allying identities. They have served at in a variety of stations of command, citizenship, and government alike.
Online Application
The application must be completed online and submitted electronically once you have answered all the required questions. The application form must be completed in English. You do not have to complete the online application in one sitting; you may access and continue work on your application as frequently as needed before submitting the application.
The application deadline for the 2023 scholarship cycle was at 23:59 ET on January 31, 2024, so that the scholarship winner could be announced prior to the US Naval Academy’s Immediate Graduate Education Program (IGEP) funding deadlines.
Supporting Documents You’ll Need To Prepare
Within the application, you’ll be asked to write several essays of lengths varying from 100 to 1000 words, submit your resume & transcript, and upload a letter of recommendation.
